Chicken Road is easy to start and surprisingly hard to put down, but the rules themselves take about a minute to learn. This guide walks through a round from the first tap to the cash-out, explains the controls and the auto-cashout option, and shows how the four difficulty modes change what you are signing up for. Before you start: it's a crash game, not a slot
It is worth getting the mental model right. Chicken Road is a crash / step-multiplier game. There are no reels to spin and no symbols to line up. Instead you guide a cartoon chicken across a road, one tile at a time, and a multiplier climbs with every tile it survives. Any tile can "explode" and end the round, so the only real decision you make is when to stop. Get that, and everything below falls into place.
Step by step: a single round
- Choose a difficulty mode. Easy, Medium, Hard or Hardcore. This sets the crash chance per tile and how fast the multiplier grows. All four share the same 98% RTP — see the table below.
- Set your stake. The bet field accepts anything from roughly $0.01 up to about $150–$200, depending on the casino. Start small while you get a feel for the pace.
- Send the chicken forward. Press the Go / Play button (the Spacebar works on desktop) to step onto the first tile. Your multiplier leaves 1.00× and starts climbing.
- Decide, tile by tile. Each successful step nudges the multiplier up. Each step also carries a fixed chance of the tile detonating. After every step you face the same choice: bank it, or push your luck one more tile.
- Cash out. Hit Cash Out to lock in current multiplier × stake. The money is yours the instant you do.
- Or get caught. If a tile explodes before you cash out, the round ends immediately and your stake is forfeit. There is no partial refund.
- Reach the golden egg. Survive every tile to the final one and you collect the mode's maximum multiplier — the top prize for that run.
That loop repeats for as long as you want to play. Win or lose, each round is independent: a long survival streak does not make the next tile any safer, and a string of early explosions does not make you "due" a win.
The controls
The interface is deliberately minimal and mobile-first, with large tap targets:
- Go / Play — advance one tile (Spacebar on desktop).
- Cash Out — collect your current winnings and end the round on your terms.
- Bet field — type or use +/− to set your stake.
- Mode selector — switch between Easy, Medium, Hard and Hardcore between rounds.
- Auto-cashout — optionally set a target multiplier; the game banks automatically the moment that multiplier is reached, which is handy if you keep hesitating a step too long. Full autoplay is not guaranteed and depends on the operator, so plan to play manually.
The four difficulty modes
The mode you choose is the single biggest lever you control. Here is how the four compare. Remember: the RTP stays at 98% in every mode — only the volatility and the prize ceiling move.
A quick read of the table:
- Easy (24 tiles, ~4% per step) — the gentlest curve. You will reach the end fairly often, but the top multiplier is modest. Good for learning and for stretching a small bankroll.
- Medium (22 tiles, ~12%) — a noticeable step up in danger, with multipliers into the thousands if you are bold and lucky.
- Hard (20 tiles, ~20%) — one in five tiles is a trap. Runs end fast, but the ceiling jumps into the tens of thousands.
- Hardcore (15 tiles, ~40%) — most rounds die in the first few steps. The reward for surviving is a multiplier that can in theory reach into the millions, though a per-round win cap usually limits the actual cash payout.

A worked example
Say you stake $1 on Easy. The chicken survives four tiles and the multiplier reads 1.18×. You can cash out for $1.18, or step again. You push to the seventh tile at 1.40×, cash out, and collect $1.40 — a 40-cent profit on the round. Had you gambled one more tile and the eighth exploded, you would have walked away with nothing instead. Multiply that single decision across hundreds of rounds and you understand why disciplined cash-out timing, not luck, is what separates players who last from players who bust.
